This week, I’ve got three practical strategies to share with you to get you some new customers and to keep them. I’m John Paul Fischbach. I’m the CEO and chief alchemist here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator. And the reason we’re focusing on getting you some new customers and keeping them is because as much as 80% of your revenue can come from repeat customers. Right? The first sale is always the hardest sale to get. But you’re in the arts. What you deliver is awesome. So the second sale is a lot easier. And the best way to get more sales from repeat customers is make more sales to first-time customers. Right? Introduce more people to your particular magic. Now by far, the best way to get customers is to have an online process. That’s called a sales funnel. And we have a whole course devoted to that called “The Art of Selling Art Online.” There’s a link right below this that can get you that course. But for now, I’m going to share three basic strategies.

Strategy number one to get more customers, more new customers, is to give them a deal. Right? They have found you at an opportune moment in their life where they’re looking for something. Right? So some of the strategies you can use are a limited time offer. Right? So those are people that are in the performing arts. Your thing is only going to be on sale for a limited time so they have to act now to get this. Right? So that introduces this concept of scarcity. So if you’re in the visual arts, it’s a new work. Right? So there’s a limited time that it’s going to be available or, “I’m announcing my new line. I’m showing my new work for the season.” Right? And it’s going to go. So there’s a scarcity issue. And you could also give them a money deal, but always do the money deal for a reason. Right? Make sure that there’s some story of value if you’re going to give them a discount in price. Your goal is not to make as much money as you can on the first sale, it’s to make the first sale. So think about some of those strategies. Make it easy for them to be your customer.

Strategy number two is to give them an experience. Right? Well, this is easy for the arts. Right? Because the arts is basically an intrinsic experience. So your job is to build a relationship. Don’t just ignore them. Don’t ignore the customer. Build a relationship. Right? You can combine your art with an experience for first-timers. If this is their first time to ever buy a painting, if this is their first time to come to the theatre, if this is their first time to come to one of your concerts. Right? And help them understand that experience. Right? You could combine a studio visit. You combine a special tea and chat after the performance. Right? You can also invite them to bring friends. Right? When they come to experience the art, invite them to bring some friends along with them.

You also need to learn more about them. Right? So giving them an experience. Learn more about them. Ask them about the impact of your art. How did it make them feel? Right? Then also you could look for places to surprise them when the art is delivered to them or is consumed. Just honor the experience of experiencing your art.

And the third strategy is just give them some information. Right? We call this education marketing. So share inside information. Explain how to consume your art. Right? Tell them your story, including how this art came to be. Maybe you want to lead them into the bigger picture of the spiritual connection and the value of your art. Right? If they know more, they’re going to share more. So know the value you and your art delivers and be overt about that with your new customers. All right? So the goal is to have customers who get you and appreciate your art. So give them a deal, give them an experience, and give them information.
