Hi, John Paul Fischbach, Chief Alchemist and CEO here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator with another Hot Tip for this Tuesday. This is another tip to go along with Hot Tip 34 under the theme of gratitude.

Gratitude, why should we care about gratitude? It’s not a new concept but the cool thing is that recently it’s been scientifically studied. The benefits of gratitude have now been scientifically documented. If you want to know more check out Robert Emmons. He documented that after only three weeks of just keeping a gratitude journal. People develop more energy and sleep better. That’s pretty cool. That’s just from keeping a journal.

Gratitude is also connected to emotional intelligence. Let’s up our emotional intelligence and focus on the good. Lots of are experts at the negative. We’re experts at complaining about things that have gone wrong, people that have hurt us. We all do that. That’s right but let’s not have more of that negative because that behavior is not very emotionally intelligent.

Here’s a little exercise that we give artists who work with us. It’s kind of like keeping a gratitude journal. Create the words and then hold the feelings. Create the words. Make a little list of things that you appreciate that you have. Appreciate what you do have. Appreciate what went right today. Write it down. Then go and look at each of those and replay it for about 20 seconds. Focus on what you see, what you feel, what you hear when you about and remember that thing that you’re grateful for. It can be really simple.

There’s a hardware store across the street that is awesome. I could write down hardware store across the street. Then I would spend 20 seconds thinking about the experience at the hardware store. How they greet me, how they welcome me, how they help me solve problems. Think, see, feel, hear.

All you need to do is to do three of these on your list. You only need three on your list because it’s exponential. Three of these equals one minute but that one minute of gratitude starts the chain reaction and it will end up with a 10 times effect.

If getting a little bit of intelligence would be helpful to you please like this video. If you have complaining friends who spend a lot of time on the non-emotional intelligent, negative side please share this video with them. It’s a really useful tool that really helps.

What I’d love to have is below this video a little list of things that you’re grateful for, things that you appreciate because it’s a small list. They can be tiny things but it would be great to put the list together.

Here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator we want you to more than survive we actually want you to thrive. The best way to thrive is to subscribe to Hot Tip Tuesdays so we’ll see you next week for something new to try.

  1. Yesterday I reasoned that if I were an employee, my boss (me in this case) would praise me for a number of things and I listed (verbally (aloud) to myself) the great things that my boss would say if I worked for someone (i.e. moi). As well as praising myself for all the good things that I do and innovate, I also made a note of the things that I need to work on a little harder (like getting into the office earlier – I am a night person) , but all in all I decided that I could/might/am the best employee that I could ever have….dedicated and diligent etc., etc., and I love my work. I watched this Hot Tip last night….after I had tried this idea. How did it make me feel….? Not sure about boosting my emotional intelligence, but I resolved to keep pursuing my goals and felt good about my work all yesterday…..thanks JP for the Hot tip. Sometimes these things seem obvious, but WE ALL NEED REMINDING from time to time. JP your Hot tips are brilliant and always so professionally presented. Thanks tonnes for the HOT TIP – from the tip of my paint brush to the bottom of my heart : )
