The Secret works for artists if you know how to use it

Clear intention and a plan makes it possible for the universe to bring you what you need to succeed.

Hi, guys. It’s Callum again. Thanks for tuning in for another one of our weekly Hot Tips. Now, this week, we’re going to explore making a 10-year plan, and we’ll be doing this through the use of an affirmation exercise. The benefit of doing this is it provides you with focus, a clear intention of where you want to be and what you want to achieve. There is also a bonus benefit as the exercise is linked to the law of attraction. And we’ll speak a little bit more about that as I’m sure some of you would have heard of it. Now this law, when understood and applied, can produce amazing results all the way from big visions down to the daily little outcomes to assist with short-term planning.

A good friend of mine brought this exercise to my attention last week. And I wanted to share this with those of you who haven’t heard of the law of attraction or done anything like this before and also to hear from those of you who may want to share their own uncanny experiences. However, before we get started with the exercise, I will tell you a bit of background as to where this particular exercise came from. And I’ll share with you a couple of my own personal experiences of late and how they fit into the broader concept.

The exercise was articulated by Debbie Millman in an interview with Tim Ferriss earlier this year. Debbie is an American writer, artist, brand consultant, and also the host of her own radio show, “Design Matters.” And during the interview, she revealed how as a student of Milton Glaser, a leading American graphic designer, he took her through the exercise. And that was well over 10 years ago now. And Debbie re-reads her essay every year, similarly to looking at a vision board on your wall. But more on that in an upcoming Hot Tip. And from her own experience and some of her students’, it’s uncanny in the way that most of her articulated intentions have become to realize themselves.

The law of attraction was first brought to my attention through the book, “The Secret,” many, many years ago, which I’m sure most of you have either read or heard of. For me, it’s been consistently producing results over many years. And I’ll give you a couple of examples of how this has unfolded, specifically for me, over the last couple of months, during a period of significant change. And then we’ll get into the exercise.

Now, it’s been uncanny how, after meeting JP, the universe has been shaping things and providing things that I’ve been consciously putting out there. For example, before moving to Melbourne to start working at The Incubator, I was approached and recommended an ideal apartment only five minutes’ walk from work. And another one, JP and I clearly defined the kind of salesperson we were looking for to come on board. And someone came to us, without even placing an ad anywhere, within two weeks of starting the discussion. And now, we’ve decided to look for another sales rep in Australia. See what I’m doing here? So watch this space.

So, how do we make this 10-year plan, you may be asking, and how does this all tie together? Well, once you complete this exercise, you have a clearly-defined vision of where you want to be in 10 years’ time. And putting it out there primes the universe to draw all of the resources for you needed to achieve it. Now, here it is. I want you to write down what your ideal day would look like in 10 years’ time. I want you to be as specific as possible, from when you wake up in the morning to when you go to sleep. See, feel, hear that day as if it’s real, that you have achieved it. Dream big. What do you have to lose? Now, when you are finished, save this essay somewhere, and pull it out at least once a year and re-read it. You just might be surprised how your life is tracking.
