This week, I want you to consider whether or not you are approaching burnout. Now, I’ll also offer you some ways to turn that around. I’m John Paul Fischbach. I’m the CEO and chief alchemist here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator. And this week’s hot tip is to just look out for burnout.
Now, burnout is a problem for us as artists because it’s actually defined as psychological effects of relentless work stress. So think about that, relentless work stress. Relentless, it’s about relentless, okay? So sadly, most of us don’t recognize the signs of burnout because it happens so subtly.
So, I wanna give you three red flags that you’re under mental stress that could lead to burnout. Now, I encourage you to pay attention to these telltale signs because it’s the accumulation of the symptoms that creates the burnout trap. And once you’re in that trap, you’re in that trap. So, red flag number one, you want to run away. So, are you almost seriously thinking of throwing it all away and booking a one-way ticket to Bali? Well, this temptation is often a symptom of worn out burnout, okay?
Number two red flag, you’re always tired. So, are you actually preferring to sleep away a gorgeous, sunny Saturday morning? Now, emotional exhaustion is a telltale sign that you’re suffering from a work dysfunction stress that’s gonna lead to burnout. And the third red flag is you’re always disgruntled. So do you find yourself walking around blaming and being generally unhappy with everything and with everyone? Well, you know, to cope with being a frenetic artist, you may find yourself blaming the world of the arts for your self-employed frantic pace, and that’s gonna lead you to burnout.
So, how do you go? How many of those three do you have? Do you wanna run away? Are you always tired, you’re always disgruntled? All right, so here’s five things the way you can turn this around. Number one, intentionally book some time with friends who make you happy. Number two, splurge on yourself with a little TLC. Number three, just trim down that to-do list. Number four, broaden your goals to reinvigorate yourself. And number five, book a vacation, okay?
So, five things you can do to turn this around. Intentionally book some time with friends who make you happy, makes sense. Splurge on yourself with a little TLC, that breaks that pattern. Trim down your to-do list, it’s probably too much anyway. Broaden your goals to invigorate yourself again, right? Pick something different outside the arts that you wanna do and then absolutely book a vacation.
All right, those are the three. There’s actually seven, and we go into greater detail with the seven red flags of burnout and into more detail about how you can do these things to help you in the ASAP membership program.
