Hi. John Paul Fischbach, Chief Alchemist and CEO here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator with another Hot Tip for this Tuesday. This week’s theme is the power of reflection. Over the years as we travel around running The Secrets of Success Seminar by far the most powerful part of that two day experience for artists is that they pause and reflect on their business. You are very busy as an independent artist working in the business. When do you get the chance to work on the business?
Think about it. If you are down in the base of the ship shoveling the coal so that the ship keeps going and you’re shoveling the coal who is upon deck steering the ship. Who’s upon deck noticing fi the way is clear and there’s an iceberg? Enough shoveling, I think it’s time for some reflection because your time and your energy are so valuable to the company. If you aren’t being productive, if you aren’t making progress towards your goals you have to fix that. There is no point in trudging along and making a huge dent in your workload, crossing things off your to do list only to realize that you’ve been missing the target completely. Not good.
Here’s what I recommend right now. Please do this right now. Go to your diary. Find a fortnight from now. Pick two weeks from right now and I want you to book 30 minutes in your diary. I want you to call it reflection time. Every fortnight or at least once a month you need to have some reflection and see if you’re making the progress that you want to be making. That’s all. It’s 30 minutes. I encourage you to try to do it outside. Do it as you walk.
You need some thinking and reflecting time to just say how’s this fortnight been? How’s the month been? Am I going in the direction I want to go because course correction is all part of the business but you can’t course correct unless you reflect. That is the power of reflection.
If this Hot Tip was useful for you please like the video. If you know someone else who’s working and working and working and never reflecting share this video with them. Maybe they can join you on that 30 minute reflection walk and you can talk to each other. That is often a very cool way to do reflection. If you do, if you reflect, if you’ve learned something about your direction, the direction you’re heading and whether you’re on track or not please put a comment below.
It’s important to start a dialog with others about this idea of the power of reflection because here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator we’ve really want you to more than survive we want you to thrive and in order to thrive you should subscribe. In order to thrive you should subscribe. We’ll see you next week for more Hot Tips.
Hi J P
Wonderful stuff.
Thank you for your dedication to our art and craft.
Your continual ‘knocking on the door’ IS so effective. After all these years I am getting quite organised. The Story Book is continuing to get work. My Talking tree is booked all over the joint, My Froggy is working well AND I am singing and playing continually. Your tips have helped me be really organised which is reflecting on my loyal team.
Love your work and look forward to seeing you again.
Your friend.
Mort
