Hi. It’s John Paul Fischbach, CEO and Chief Alchemist here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator with another tip because it’s Tuesday. The title of this week’s Hot Tip is the Power of And. And is one of those little words that when used the right way has the power to open your world to unimagined resources and unlimited love.
I first discovered the power of this little conjunction in acting class when we explored improvisation. There’s a fun improvisation game called Yes And. Google Yes And Improv Game and you can practice it. You can practice your skills with the power of and but you help you embrace with the power of and what I’d love you to do this week is replace the word but with the word and.
Any time the word but comes out of your mouth stop. Remember what you said and then consider what would happen if you said and instead of but because when you say but you’re claiming control. You’re defensive. You’re shutting out possibilities or you’re making excuses. When you say and you’re accepting. You’re taking responsibility and you’re leaving things open for new possibilities to be creative.
Have you ever said I’d love to but I can’t afford it? Replace but with and I’d love to and I can’t afford it. It opens up the opportunity and the challenge to figure out how you can have the thing you want. It doesn’t say that you can suddenly afford it but it’s saying it’s not a but. It’s not a barrier. It’s another condition. Both conditions are in play and that’s the power of and.
How about this one? I did five things on my list today but I didn’t do the other five. Change that around. I did five things on my list and I have five more to do. You’re not a loser. Take responsibility for what you did accomplish. Dont nullify it with a but.
Here’s one more. Sometimes we interject a but. Someone will be offering an idea and you’ll butt in with but we need whatever whatever. What if you interjected with an and. They are offering this creative idea and you interject with and we need. Feel the difference so try it out.
This week be consciously aware of every time you say but and swap it with an and an open up the power of creativity and the power of possibility.
If you think this is a fun idea please like the video. If you know someone else who shuts things down and always makes excuses with a but share this video with them and let them discover the power of and. I would love to know below this video one of the most powerful substitutions. What was a powerful substitution where you used and and it produced a different and more exciting result because here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator we really want you to more than survive we want you to thrive and the best way to survive is to subscribe to Hot Tip Tuesday. See you next week.
