This week, I’m here to share a hot tip on getting the most out of something.

Hi, I’m Julie-Anne Black, the Producer of Bold and Irresistible Communicators, here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator. When have you had the most fun? Or the most profound learning experience? Or the biggest leap in your arts business? Was it when you were standing in the wings watching everyone else giving an oscar-winning performance? Only to wish you had the courage to join them center stage? Or was it when you threw yourself into the project and gave it everything you had even if the fun wasn’t everything you wanted? For me, it’s always been a more positive and satisfying experience, when I’ve been on lean, done the work, ask the questions, being fully immersed in the scenario, and excited by the brilliance due to come.

What we’re talking about here is the concept of leaning in. Putting a hand up when you need help. Capping a hand up if you haven’t received it yet. And basically supporting yourself to get the result you want. Here are six things that will happen when you lean in.

Leaning in is good for your soul. It helps you push the boundaries of your in status quo. You discover more about yourself and others. You feel more included rather than excluded. You progress much more quickly. The glowing at a lawn, discovering a whole new level of connection and contribution. Plus you have much more fun because you’re actualizing your dream. Making money, sharing your best work in them world, and ultimately making a difference.

If you really wanna change your circumstances and be a thriving artist, you are the only one who can truly make it happen. Did you just show up and expect it to work out? Or did you lean in? Did you commit to do the planning and take the necessary action to have the successful completion of the outcome? Sometimes the honesty pill can be a little hard to swallow. Did you really get on stage and gave it your all?

This isn’t about making excuses or justifying why it didn’t work out for you, it is about making sure you’re taking responsibility for the results you want. And not settling until you have accomplished your big dream. Imagine how proud you’ll be when you are a thriving artist, fully supported by your arts business? It’s okay and more normal than you may have realized to feel isolated, awkward, anxious, even embarrassed. And at times scared to put your hand up. But I can promise you this, when you lean in, remain curious and ask for what you want. The most spectacular things happen. You not only get the most out of something, you’ll also receive, more often than not, the exact support you needed and your confidence, creativity, and performance shifts from dull to brilliant.

I want you to try this this week. One, put focus on one thing you currently feel challenged by. Two, create a plan. Three, lean in and ask for what you need. Four, be grateful rather than entitled. And five, open your heart and be brilliant now. Let us know what happened when you created a plan and actually asked for what you needed. Did you get the most out of something?
