Hi, I’m John Paul Fischbach. I’m the Chief Alchemist here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator. I’m thrilled to welcome you to another Hot Tip Tuesday. The theme this week is own your name. What we mean by that is that most artists that we deal with are operating under two identities. One is their own actual physical name John Paul Fischbach but the other is some sort of other clever name that they think is really cool like Brown Door Studios or Open Gate Theater.
No, we would encourage you to please dont do that. Dont hide behind a clever ID. Use your name. When people find you they’re going to be amaze at your particular mojo they’re going to know your name. Make it easy for them. Dont make them learn some other name that has nothing to do with you. They’re going to go research you. They’re going to go google your name. Be sure that you’re found using your name.
In the audience journey that we walk you through in the Artist Transformation School we explain that the first level of marketing is awareness. People understand that you exist or they hear about you. Chances are they’re going to hear about your name. They might hear about a product but chances are it’s going to be your name. The next thing they’re going to do is they’re going to google your name so use your name.
If you’re in Facebook Land and you’re building a page just create a page that says John Paul Fischbach Film Director or John Paul Fischbach Artist. That’s fine. You can do that to claim that name in case you have a very common name but please we encourage you to use your name. It’s the thing that identifies you and it’s the thing that all of your art can get put underneath.
Many of you do a whole bunch of things and that’s great. You’re a versatile artist. It’s really hard for people to learn every single one but they can learn your name and then they can come to your website looking for the thing that they know that you do but look at those other tabs, these other things that this person does and then you name grows but the key is to use your name and own it. Own it on all social media. Dont have one name on Facebook, one name on Twitter, one name on LinkedIn. Your name consistent, website, everything, all across the board. Please, we encourage you just to use that name.
If this Hot Tip was helpful please like the video. If you know someone who needs this Hot Tip please share this with them. If you have any questions or comments please do that below.
