Hi, John Paul Fischbach, Chief Alchemist and CEO here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator with another Hot Tip for this Tuesday. The tip this week is to get a coach. It’s part of our ongoing confident series and it’s a companion to Hot Tip 36 about accountability because holding you accountable is only one thing that a coach can do for you.

I guess my question to start this Hot Tip is why is it that so many artists never consider having a coach. People in elite professions, athletes, musicians, even my dentist and my plumber have coaches. Running an arts business is very complex. Why do you expect yourself to be able to do it all alone? A confident person is self-aware, self-aware enough to ask for help and support and guidance.

One thing that builds confidence is a pat on the back for a job well done and when that pat comes from a coach, from a talented, experienced person who knows where you’re heading it really boosts your confidence very quickly. A good coach can act as a mirror for you offering that perspective that you need to see what you have achieved and where you’re heading because knowledge breeds confidence and knowing where you stand helps you to focus your energy.

Craig and I often say when we talk to artists maybe our job as a coach is to believe in you until you have the confidence to believe that you can. Beyond that and beyond perspective a good coach can help educate you on some of the things that you need to know and can offer you the skills that you need at the exact time you need them. Remember learn do Hot Tip 39? A good coach knows how to keep you moving forward to achieve your goals and achieving goals is the greatest confidence booster that there is. If you’re in that position where it feels like you’re struggling, sliding. Maybe a coach is what you need.

If this Hot Tip is helpful, if the idea of thinking about a coach or considering the confidence that could come from a coach is appealing to you please like this video. If you know a fellow artist who is struggling and could really use this Hot Tip please share this video.

I’d love to have a bit of a conversation below the video about the things that you might want a coach to help you with or things that you’ve had an experience being coached. What’s that done for you, how that has built your confidence because here at the Auspicious Arts Incubator we want you to more than survive? We want you to thrive and the best way to thrive is to subscribe. We’ll see you next week at Hot Tip Tuesday.

  1. John Paul and IT colleague; I’m about to reverse the coaching scenario. May I humbly suggest (and I seriously underline ‘humbly’ as I’m in no position of authority) DO NOT try and be “personalities” (I hate that term, but in this instance it serves the purpose).

Jus talk. That’s it, simple really. Neither of you are born public speakers, but you possibly have worthwhile information to pass on. I’m an artist, I check out your site occasionally for information … INFORMATION … sorry not meaning to shout just emphasise. If I want to watch a motivational speaker, or a TED delivery, I’ll go there. I come to your site because I expect to find a few tips that could help me, not watch a wanna be ‘presenter’, waving your hands around so artificially, trying to be authentic and convincing. I’m not wishing to offend, I’m just tired of everyone trying to be oh so clever when really they’re not. If you have something of value to pass on, As Buggs Bunny said “I’m a All Ears” and I’ll watch and follow. Otherwise …

    1. Hi Edward

I’m sorry you don’t like my style. I am actually a trained speaker and each of these videos come from a genuine desire to share something that I feel will be useful for artists. I feel that this is a case of not accepting the message because you don’t like the messenger. I will continue to share these FREE hot tips… weather you stay or go… the choice is yours…

  2. as a furniture maker in the early years of business, my skills in marketing are non-existent.
What sort of person can coach me on this or do I need to spend money to make money?
If so, what’s a plan to get started?
